Where it began
Paul Bardeen reinvents pumpkin carving
Over 80 years ago, safety engineer Paul Bardeen reinvented pumpkin carving. With handmade saws, paper patterns and a simple transfer technique, he worked out how to transform simple pumpkins into intricate works of art. Then he taught his children how to design and carve their own creations, free from the limits and hazards of kitchen knives. Every October, the Bardeen family would proudly carry their glowing masterpieces door-to-door to share with the neighborhood.
The world's first kit
Carve-O-Lantern changes everything
In 1986, the family developed their tradition into the world's first pumpkin carving kit: Carve-O-Lantern. Loaded with patterns, tools, tips and family lore, it quickly caught on. The brand grew to become Pumpkin Masters®, which proudly continues this legacy of creativity, innovation, and fun. For four decades, we've helped millions of families carve safely, easily, and artfully. A new chapter
Pumpkin Masters® joins Signature Brands
In 2006, Pumpkin Masters® became part of Signature Brands, beginning a new chapter in the brand's story. For the past 20 years, Signature Brands has proudly carried forward the Bardeen family's original vision — making pumpkin carving approachable, creative, and fun for families everywhere.
